Michael Crichton's new release, Next, is a thrilling, insightful and humorous look at the world of genetic experimentation. Fifteen years on from Jurassic Park, Crichton blends fact and fiction about the world of genetics into a breathless tale of a new world where nothing is as it seems and new sets of possibilities opens up at every turn. The real question with the book is: how close is it to reality?

This is a pertinent question, as the work of American company NEXTgencode http://www.nextgencode.com should make us wonder.

Buying your first Permapuppy might soon be only a click of the mouse away.

One thing is for sure: the new genetic dawn is close at hand, and what it might mean Michael Crichton has, once again, started to tell us in his brilliant new novel.

After graduating from the Harvard Medical School, Michael Crichton embarked on a career as a writer and filmmaker. Called "the father of the techno-thriller," his novels include The Andromeda Strain, Congo, Jurassic Park , and State of Fear.
