Hi Paul in Clearmont! I heard an interview with Jerry Robbins who created the series. He knows Clearmont wasn't settled until years later, but he said he wanted a town that actually exists, instead of making one up. If it were an actual town from 1874, people would be saying "there was no Britt MacMasters in Clearmont-" so you can't win either way. He said he decided to go with the town because it eventually did exist, and it was so close to the Powder. I think it's pretty cool that Clearmont is real, and hearing the show for the past three years makes me want to come and visit!
